Ten (10) ways To create a worship friendly home


We can simply turn our houses to whatever we want.The house does not have to be perfect but at least try to have a meaningful living. In such a way that you infect people around you with this positive energy. Here are some recommendations on how to turn your home into a cozy, worship-like environment;

1. Make your room tidy


They say “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”. Keep your house neat and tidy, use incense burners time get the perfect smell. It has been reported that the Prophet (pbuh) said, “When any one of you goes to bed, he should take hold of the hem of his lower garment and then should clean (his bed) with the help of that and then should recite the name of Allāh” [SM 271]



2. Identify your spot of reflection


Find a quiet place to ponder about Allah’s blessings bestowed upon you. Use this period to organize your thoughts and reflect deeply on the countless blessings showered up you. Let it be a moment of appreciation. This period of lockdown is ideal for reflection

Do reflect on your inner self. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him secluded himself for months to listen, reflect and meditate.

In those moments we can talk to Allah tell him our concerns, give him our fears and open our hearts to receive the guidance he is sending us“. Zahra Aljabri


Let us not be tempted to touch our phones nor read a book, the reflection will allow you to become the best version of yourself. You can achieve peace and complete connection with Allah (SWT).


One can ask questions such as;

  • what are the good things that I did today ?

  • what do I need to improve on?

  • What makes me think that is true?

  • Why do I feel this way?

  • How could I see this differently?

  • What if I’m wrong?




3. Create a small worship area


Create a very cozy worship area with all the things that you need, such as; your Quran , praying Mat, Dua books, Dhikr beads etc.

Praying daily there will help shape your everyday life hence the peace and tranquility



4. Engage in Deeds journalism


Reflect on all the good and bad things you had done for the day, rate and assess your self. Count your areas of strengths and weaknesses, make a chart on how to improve the weaknesses. Find a way of tracking progress



5. Create a mosque for kids

This is a good idea to make sure all members of the family are onboard. The children shouldn’t feel left out so it is recommended you create a small mosque for them. Decorate it with colorful things to attract their eyes.


6. Do not over eat

Almost all types of food are permissible in Islam but if you become too extravagant it becomes sinful. It is very crucial to maintain a heathy diet to take care both our spiritual and physical needs.


Yahya ibn Katheer reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

آكُلُ كَمَا يَأْكُلُ الْعَبْدُ وَأَجْلِسُ كَمَا يَجْلِسُ الْعَبْدُ فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا عَبْدٌ I eat as the servant eats, and I sit as the servant sits. Verily, I am only a servant. Source: Shu’ab al-Imān 5519, Grade: Sahih


7. watch productive TV programs


Sometimes give the regulars soap operas a break, spend your time watching more meaningful and productive things such as ; Sunnah TV, Peace TV, Islam channel, Iqra channel etc. There is definitely a take away lesson from any episode you watch on those channels.

8. Exercise


Exercise is very important to for our physical, mental and spiritual well being. There are so many exercises for Moms online incase one doesn’t want to go to the gym. We all have no excuse to stay healthy.



9. Get a pet


A pet can keep you company and taking care of it will give uttermost satisfaction. It is very rewarding.

10. Share food with neighbours

It is very important to treat your neighbours well. It does not have to a large heavy meal, light snacks, drinks or even a simple hello is recommended. When ever you are buying fast food, drugs always ask your neighbour or simply get it for him/her.


Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,


He is not a believer who spends the night satiated while the neighbor to his side is hungry.”
